sad I’m Frustrated

Music Player has been malfunctioning on Facebook

Both I and my friends are finding it impossible to get the Reverb Nation music player to function on both Facebook profiles and Facebook Music/Artist pages.

I can post the link as easily as always. Here is the prepared post, just before clicking "post":

Then, here is how the posted player link appears on my profile. It's the same as always, at this point:

HOWEVER, when I (or one of my friends) clicks on the image with the arrow (standard way of having the player expand) THIS is what we get:

It's useless. No sound plays, and if I click on it to try and get it to play, I'm simply redirected to my Reverb Nation page.

Fans don't like that. They like the embedded experience.

BTW, I have tried this with the Reverb Nation app installed and uninstalled, as well as the Band app both ways.

I have tried all three major browsers.

I have cleared temp files.

I have cleared my cache and cookies.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the latest versions of Flash and Java and Shockwave player.

ALSO, this same problem happens on my Facebook Music Page.

Please help. I'm getting too many complaints about this...

    Hi Gordy,

Sorry for the trouble! Your ReverbNation music player on Facebook is working with no problems on my end.

Are you still experiencing this issue? What web browsers have you tested this on?
    • I'm sorry. I did say I used all three major browsers. I should have said Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.

FIRST, I went to that April 17th link, and I couldn't get it to play.

AND, I'm wondering, why did you have to go so far back on on my timeline to test? Couldn't you have proved it was working by playing a more recently posted link?

I don't think so, because I couldn't. I had to go all the way down my timeline to February 10th to find a Reverb Nation link that would play, embeded.

      Which begs the question...

Why does the same link posted now not work, when it's working further down my timeline, only with a different "look" to it.

I can post the screen shot of the only link I can get to work, but this happens on my personal profile now as well as the profiles of my friends. I use them to test it, and they say the same thing: it's NOT working.

Stop treating us the way Microsoft treats people. Do NOT assume the problem is with me. The problem is occurring after exhaustive updates and clearing of caches ad naseum.

IF YOU WANT MY OPINION, somewhere along the line you (or Facebook) upgraded something, which is why the link I just pinned to the top of my page WON'T play, but a February link will.

Look, make this easy on both of us. Go to my page and play the link I have pinned to the top of my timeline (free download for "I'll Feast My Eyes on You".

IF you can show me a screenshot of that link (with the correct date of posting) playing for you, then I'll shut up.

Of course, I'll probably switch to TuneCore or something else as well, since it's no good for me if it works for you but doesn't work for me or my fans.

      Thanks for all your time.

Frustrated on how inconsistent the music player works... Also found imbedding a music player widget will NOT play using Firefox, Mac Lion, latest flash. It WILL play using Safari, however, but many users use Firefox. Sigh...

In addition to my comment, here is my latest screen shot of the FIRST link I could get to play when I went way back on my timeline:

ALSO, please keep in mind, most of us are much more technically proficient than our fans.

So, the question shouldn't be, "What browser are you using?"

The question should be, "What browsers are our fans using?"

Your setup should be able to work for the average fan.

Every person who comes to my page is not going to do all of the updating you are asking us to do.

I'm sorry, but it seems that your supervisors aren't giving you any support, and you are being forced to give us unsatisfactory answers/solutions.

I mean, has anyone written back and said, "Oh yeah! I did everything you said and now it all works beautifully!"

    I don't think so...

    Hi Gordy,

The link on the top of your Timeline for the free download of "I'll Feast My Eyes On You" plays with no problems on my end. I have tested it with Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

I cannot replicate your issue. When we run tests in every environment and still can't replicate the problem, unfortunately, our only conclusion can be that the issue is on the user's end. I can at least confirm that everything associated with ReverbNation on your Facebook page is functioning properly. The average fan should have no trouble playing your music when they visit your Facebook page.

Sorry I could not be of better assistance!

    happy I’m Ecstatic!
Good news, Parker! I finally got my Facebook music players and my Reverb Nation site players working correctly.

    1. I went to my Flash settings and made sure I wasn't restricting sites from storing data (up to 10 MB). Basically made sure all settings left room for websites to interact while still keeping some options as "must ask".

    2. At the same time, I went into my add ons and made sure that ALL of the Flash files were allowed to work all of the time. NOTE: in Chrome, I had THREE Flash/Shockwave files but ONE was disabled. I enabled all three.

For those reading this, to adjust your Flash settings, simply search though your browser for "Flash Settings". Flash settings are always adjusted via the internet (except as I mentioned in your browser add-on/plugin settings).

Follow the link to the Macromedia web site, and your settings panel will be immediately visible and accessible. At that point, if you have no idea what you are doing, ask a techie friend--it's fairly simple and you won't need much (if any) help.

I apologize for getting so cranky about this. It just seemed a lot of us were having problems with this.

sad I’m Ready to try a new site...
My song will play on Reverbnation but not on my Facebook band page at https://www.facebook.com/IHateRickyth.... I've tried Google Chrome, FIrefox, and Internet Explorer. Not sure if you'll be able to view that page because it's linked to a profile that's under 18yrs old but I'd love to know if the problem is on my computer or if no-one can hear our music.

  • The Dustin Pittsley Band
From the DPB's agent/RN administrator: This is ridiculous. After all the work we put into building our RN page unless every fan, venue or other viewer knows all these ridiculous particulars required to make the music player PLAY they will not hear our music and hire another band! Fix the problem, train your support staff or I have to leave and start all over with someone else. What a pain. How many people do you have to hear this from????

You also continue to say you can't replicate it, that it must be on the user end. ALL the users are incompetent???? None of us changed anything. It went from working to NOT working. This is RN's problem to fix.

Sorry for the trouble! I am having no problems playing the music on your ReverbNation and Facebook pages. The vast majority of the time users have issues playing music on the site, it is a web browser issue on their end. Keeping your web browser up to date resolves this issue. We test user issues in every environment we can in order to determine if the issue is on the user's end or if it is a site-wide issue.

So, when a user reports that they are having trouble playing their music, we go to their profile and try to play their music with all web browsers on Macs and PCs. If we cannot replicate the issue and the development team cannot find any bugs that are causing the issue, we are left with the conclusion that the issue resides on the user's end. Thus, there is nothing we can fix on our end that will resolve the issue.

While it is easy to find a lot of users who have reported song play problems to the support community, this number of users is extremely small in comparison to the amount of users who successfully play the music on their RN profiles and Facebook pages on a day to day basis.

Again, I am sorry your are having trouble, and I certainly understand your frustration. My recommendation in this case is to try to play your music on a different web browser and/or a different computer to help narrow down the trouble environment on your end. Make sure you are using the most up to date versions of your web browser and your Adobe Flash player. Hope this helps!
    • Parker...I appreciate your willingness to help, but the fact remains that ReverbNation redesigned its site and after that the player doesn't play on many systems. I've updated my Flash and use Firefox and it doesn't play. It used to play fine prior to the redesign. Perhaps what needs to happen is an update widget instead of just the recurring "player wouldn't load" message. Things may play fine on your end, but they are not out in user land. Most users won't have the patience to seek out solutions; they'll just leave. If you and ReverbNation don't see this as a problem, then the greater problem you face is obsolescence. The experience should be easy and seamless for the user. It is no longer.
