Entering recurring shows
Is there a way to enter recurring (weekly/monthly) shows without entering each one manually? If not there should be.

1We are excited to announce a new feature that will allow for faster and easier input of recurring shows to artist and venue calendars. Until now if you've had a monthly or weekly residency ReverbNation has required you to enter each show individually. The new recurring show option has been one of the most requested additions to ReverbNation and we are pleased to add the monthly and weekly recurring show function to our site.
Try it out! Let us know how it works and if you find it useful.
To add a recurring show log into your ReverbNation account and go to:
Control Room > Shows > Add Show
Once you choose 'Traditional' or 'Non-Traditional' venue you will enter the start date for the show.
On our example I will set up a monthly residency on the first Friday of each month starting February 03, 2012:
Click the 'Recurring Show Options' link and select if the show is a weekly or monthly date. If the show is a monthly pick the week and weekday it is recurring. Then input an end date.
For our example I have entered a monthly show on the first Friday of each month that runs through Friday, July 06, 2012:
Enter the remaining information in as you would for a typical show date and click 'Create Show'. A confirmation box will appear notifying you that you are adding multiple dates to your calendar, click 'OK':
and that's it! We've added six dates to the show calendar:
Also, if you need to remove a date click 'edit' on any of the show listings and then click 'Delete'. An option will appear to remove a single show, cut the residency short or cancel the entire run. Choose one of three options and you can avoid deleting each show individually:
I hope you all enjoy the short cut! As always, let us know if you have any questions, ideas or comments.

I have used the CSV input a good deal. lately It has given an error about a bad zipcode on line 59. When I tried to remove line 59 from the spreadsheet I still got the error. the only solution I found was to only have fifty eight lines.
-
Often Line 59 could include the header, meaning it was in like 58, or 60. Next time, we can take a look at the spreadsheet for you if you'd like.

Hello, not everyone wants to spend the money to buy the required Exel for a CSV file just to upload multiple recurring shows aside from the fact that many of us don't want to bog down our often overloaded computers with yet another program. A simple radio button with an option to choose either the same recurring day of the week (start date - end date) or a small calendar popup that lets the user click-check various (still multiple) dates should not be too hard to implement.

Update: Out of "Shows / Manage Schedule" I downloaded (export link) the resident CSV then saved it as a seperate text file (.txt) both in ANSI and Unicode. Notepad in its default state changes the special characters between the consecutive show date enties. This makes editing a years worth of 4 weekly recurring club dates far to tedious and time consuming. The Monday & Thursday Goat Jams alone go back 8 and 10 yrs respectivly so we post those and the weekly Karaoke nights once a year (for example on Dallas Morning News / GuideLive or Dallas Observer) plus we dont really have staff resources to spend that kind of time on data entry. Otherwise this site is great platform for both artists and venues (clubs). The resident information increase with a better data input system would have a positive effect on reverbnations exposure level

I agree, I do a show every Wednesday night and this would be a great feature to have built in... thanks for listening !

I do that on Artist data Joey. I used to be able to then down load the spread sheet and load it to Reverb Nation. can't any more:(

If you think you have problems you should try entering a show in the UK. The address layout is US based we don't have 3 digit zip codes here but counties which do not have a three letter abbreviation, so it's hard to get pass this screen. Next some venues do not have a website or only a cell number which they don't want publised but this screen insists that you enter something. I put in rubbish but it all takes time to do and if inputting a lot of gigs just gets frustrating. So much so now that I'm no longer using the gig guide, which is a shame as it was useful. I agree... would like to see a better format for entering shows. Would also like to be able to sync with other calenders...
-
-
I cut and past most of my gig listings. Outlook will take a whole address in one paste.
-
-
Exactly how do you do this? You paste into what? All I see on my screen is a 1st page for date & gig type, 2nd screen for brief address and show, wait while the site looks it up, 3rd screen enter gig details etc. So where would I paste a whole gig & details??

For some of us who have multiple (5) recurring shows throughout a summer into fall . Its a pain to put it in one show at a time. The CSV file doesn't make sense. Thats just another place I have to put info.
RN should also consider that there are a lot of working for a living musicians that use them as there main Music portal. I love the music, calendar widgets for my self built website and my new iPhone app rocks.
Please add a way to add recurring gigs....

Hello All, In case a change in show date entry is considered, another (related) idea would be nice: Some of the bands playing at the club are not on the net. If we could upload a 25 x 25 show icon of the gig or the artist that would replace the generic image that one sees for all unlisted artists and venues. Would be a nice touch.

Yes, I have to agree....although I do love alot of the features Reverbnation offers but entering Gigs / Shows is not one of them. For such an informative and well thought out website you think you would have done better research as in the 'dying' MySpace and other sites that makes entering shows (especially recurring or multiple shows) so much easier. Please, please work on this a.s.a.p. before you want to make any other additions or improvements. It's one of the most important tools for musicians to be able to make the process of entering shows as hassle-free as possible.

P.S. Yes, you need to cater for other countries when it comes to entering Venues, and seeing as how most Venues don't bother using this site let alone entering details, you should allow the 'Artist/s' to upload or choose a Photo/Poster Image to attach to the shows. -

Yes, I agree as well. Not only because of recurring weekly shows, but also for festivals or other multi-day gigs. If we are playing multiple nights of a festival, there needs to be a way to put the multiple nights under one gig. For example, this summer we are playing nightly at a festival, Umbria Jazz, that lasts from July 8 - July 15
There needs to be a way to enter that as just one gig.
I would definitely consider revamping all of your show input features as an urgent priority. At the moment I have to consider a different widget or manually entering the shows on our website to avoid this problem.
Thanks,
Nate -

Please add this feature. It would help alot. Adding the same 2 shows, same venue, same time every single week is a headache.
-
-
As a venue with live music every weekend but a regularly-scheduled open mic every Tuesday, this would be a terrific feature. Please deploy as soon as possible!

I'm working with a local record label, and I juggle several artist's schedules... All with the same venues, dates, start times, age restrictions, etc...
Not to complicate things, but...
Perhaps you could make a "palette" of typical entries... ie: start times, venues, bands, etc...
So, as you navigate the show screens, your most typical entries are just a "click-to-paste" away! Plus, a recurring start/end date.
The end result would be an initial set up screen, where you enter the info desired, leaving blank the data that will vary show to show, and the date range. Then, when you hit submit, you get a list of dates with blank fields for variable data which you can then "click-paste" from the palette to complete the entries.
This will work well for labels, tour managers, venues, and bands. A few more days of coding could go a LONG LONG way!-
I just realized that this topic is more than a year old... It would appear that there is little hope of making this tool a reality...

Thanks for the message. I can not confirm how or when something like this will work, but what I can confirm is that we are working on improving the shows system on our site greatly. We actually recently acquired GigMaven to help. Here's the RN blog post: http://blog.reverbnation.com/2011/08/...
So there is certainly still hope and these suggestions, though they may be older, are still read. -

I can see that the 'adding show' screen has changed but for me it has the same old problems. It still wants a phone number, email & website address which for various reasons some don't have and some places don't want added. Please do not make this section compulsory to fill in, as it is now. Again I only enter rubbish to get past it so it does not enhance your database in anyway & wastes my time.
-
Thanks for the feedback. However to cut down on illegitimate venues, duplicate entries and the like, some information will be required to add the venue.

As a DJ Company we use (DJEP) DJ EVENT Planer to list all our shows... a link to this would be nice so that...like facebook it updates automatically...
Here is the web page code if it helps to get this link...

Ok i'm playing a regular show every friday and every time i have to enter the venue details completely as the venue is not found in your database, i think so far i've entered all the details 12 times, complete with the correct email, phone and website...
How many times do you need to enter a venue before its found in your database?-
Hi Larry
This venue appears to be showing up when I add a show and type it in. Are you including an apostrophe when you add it? Looks like the one of file doesn't have one. -

+ 1, same problem, I don't even think the database is working, it just stays greyed out. Come on Reverbn get a grip, this site is becoming as useless as Myspace unless you want Facebook to be the default music site get it fixed, make it easy to enter shows, once, without all the crap and get rid of having to put in web details for venues, not all venues (ie bars) have sites or want their phone number displayed.
I just enter crap to get passed these requirements, not good for your database and a waste of effort & time for me.-
Hi
Any owned venue with a website, etc should have no problem getting this information to you, or you finding it. If you'd like us to look into a problem venue not appearing, we will need to know what that venue is. -
-
I have to say I'm in agreeance with the lack of urgency placed on some of these requests especially when dealing with entering shows and in particular recurring shows. Reverbnation reps really need to act on these requests so you can make your site the best online tool for bands 'worldwide', I personally use RN as our main site for my band because of the valuable tools on offer, however if it starts becoming dormant and not improving the site then it will certainly go the way of MySpace and others.
Please start seriously looking into these requests and making the changes asap so I won't have to go elsewhere again.
Regards,
Tyron -

This issue seems to have been floating out there for over a year but I don't see any movement from RN on a solution. The whole CSV thing just won't work for us... and a simple repeating feature shouldn't be a difficult thing to implement. If anybody has heard of another solution... please let me know.
I agree that RN is the best thing going for bands and venues, but if it goes stagnant it will turn into a MySpace (god forbid!). -

That all looks great... but when I go into add a show there is no Traditional/Non-Traditional option - - it looks exactly the same as it did before. ??
Since i'm a venue and not an artist, is this something you need to add to my profile? -
-
That's good news guys....well done for listening to your Users/Supporters. This is going to be a good step forwarded for Reverbnation and hopefully a few of many improvements over time.
...as for the above reply *re: Venues", hmmmmm....maybe it is different for Venues as opposed to Artists but I definitely get the option of selecting 'Traditional / Non-Traditional' when entering shows? RN, you might need to look into this one as well?

I can get all the info input even though I the venue has already been posted, 5 shows last month. Its telling me it doesn't recognize the venue?
On top of that then I get all the info input & upload the pic and it keeps buffering. wtf?
absolutley no rhyme or reason to this.the venue has been registered with RN and it still doesn't add the show? -
