Better Fan Collector
I love the fan collector but it would be much better if when you signed up you also gave your City, State and Zip code in the Widget.

Chris,
We have received this request many times in the past. We don't offer widgets that ask for more info from the fan b/c it isn't a 'best practice' for gathering emails from fans. In plain English, it doesn't work as well as just asking for one piece of information - the email address. The longer the form, the less likely it is that someone will fill it out.
That said, we recognize that gathering the additional info from the fan is critical. That's why we prompt the fan for their info AFTER they click through on the verification link that they are sent when they join the list.
We also provide other services that proactively seek out more info about the fans on your mailing list to 'fill in the blanks' about them.
All in all, the best results from an email collection widget come from making it as easy as possible for the fan to do what you want them to do - give you their email and permission to send them newsletters. I'd rather have 100 fans about which I know 50% of their info, than 20 fans about which I know 100% of their info.
I hope that makes sense.

We considered this, but the vast majority of artists wanted the form to be quick and simple. We do prompt the user for that information and more as soon as they confirm via the email they get after they use the widget.
We appreciate the feedback/suggestion!

Neal (Official Rep) July 28, 2010 17:00I will submit the suggestion, but I am just being upfront that it is unlikely to change since we prompt them for that afterwards, along with even more information. When we surveyed on this long ago, current option was the favorite by far.EditDeleteRemove

It would be nice for users to have to the option to ask for more info on the widget or opt to choose only the e-mail.
You're correct, it's better to have 100 fans about which you know 50% of their info, than 20 fans about which you know 100% of their info. But in some cases having a city can really help target fans for shows. -

It should be "optional", so if they want to enter it they'll do it.
Prompting them afterwards wdoesn't work as well because people might not even open and/OR read the message. -
